Reflection:
EES Outcomes and Artifact: The essential employability skill that this artifact demonstrates is Numeracy. I have selected a financial budgeting simulation from our Financial Admin in the Office coursework. This simulation required organizing financial information, making decisions based on the information given, and calculating and showing my work to create an accurate document. This artifact demonstrates my strong understanding and ability to apply mathematical concepts to administrative work I may encounter in my career.
Self Assessment: I would assess myself as Competent in Numeracy. I am comfortable working and performing calculations with financial information. The simulation was an excellent opportunity for me to apply my skills in a realistic setting, giving me insight into when and where I may need to use this essential employability skill.
The Artifact- Successes and Challenges: One great success was having the opportunity to work with financial information where my calculations directly support my decisions and direction of my work on a project. I am incredibly proud of being able to focus on important details and go back to check my calculations to ensure accuracy. The simulation deepened my understanding of how numerical data can be used to evaluate financial situations and aid in making informed decisions. A challenge I ran into in this simulation was having to pay close attention to financial figures and ensure the correct calculations and numbers were used. I was able to overcome this by working step by step and reviewing my calculations and work before moving on to the next. This ensured my calculations were correct before continuing the simulation. This experience has made me far more confident working with numbers and financial information.
New Learning: The simulation has helped me realize that numeracy is much more than just performing basic calculations. It's being able to understand where the numbers you are using are coming from and why you are performing the calculations you set out to. As well as how to then use the numbers from the calculations to make important decisions. I also learned how one small error can have a huge impact on results. Accuracy and attention to detail are key to producing financial documents.
Future Impact: The numeracy skills practiced in completing this artifact are valuable to my academic and professional future. Administrative positions often involve working with budgets, invoices, payments, and financial records, so it is an important skill to cultivate throughout my career. My goal is to continue improving my Numeracy skills while ensuring accuracy and gaining confidence in my ability to work with numbers in a variety of situations. Numeracy skills are essential to being a reliable and effective office administrator.
